The device is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging and is available in three color options: Awesome Ice Blue, Awesome Lilac, and Awesome Navy.
Currently exclusive to South Korea, the Galaxy Quantum5 is priced at KRW 618,200 (approximately ₹38,500). It is unclear if the device will be released in other markets.
Apple Expands Apple Intelligence Features Globally with iOS 18.1 Developer Beta 3
Apple’s suite of artificial intelligence features, known as Apple Intelligence, was initially showcased at WWDC in June 2024. Although these features were first available only in the US, the latest iOS 18.1 developer beta 3 update now allows users worldwide to access them. To use these features outside the US, users must set their iPhone and Siri languages to English (US).
Previously, users had to change their device’s region to the US to access these features. However, users in China and the EU are still unable to access the Apple Intelligence suite. The update brings enhancements to Siri, making it more conversational and introducing new tools like the ‘Clean Up’ feature for photo editing. Some Apple Intelligence features, such as text-generation and formatting tools powered by ChatGPT, are expected to be introduced later this year. The full rollout of iOS 18 is anticipated after the iPhone 16 series launch on September 9.
Android 15 Officially Released with Source Code Available for Developers
Android 15 has been officially released after months of beta testing, with its source code now available on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). This allows developers to access and create custom versions of the operating system for their devices.
In a blog post, Android confirmed that the new OS will be rolled out in the coming weeks, starting with Google Pixel smartphones, including the latest Pixel 9 series. Other manufacturers like Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Motorola will receive the update in the following months.
The Android 15 update introduces new features to enhance app performance, including APIs for ApplicationStartInfo, PdfRenderer, and Matrix44 for 3D canvas manipulation. It also brings improvements in internationalization, typography, camera, and media handling, such as better HDR support and low-light audio adjustments.
For users, the update offers features like saving favorite split-screen app combinations, Braille display support for Talkback, passkey-based single sign-in, and a private space for securely storing sensitive information. Read this round-up by Verge of Android 15 features for details.
Smartphones Secretly Listening to Users, Admitted by Marketing Firm
As we’ve heard many discussions recently, smartphones may secretly listen to us, which is why we get relevant ads about things we’ve talked about or songs recommended that we’ve mentioned. Now, a recent report from 404 Media confirms that smartphones are indeed secretly listening to users through their microphones. A marketing firm, which collaborates with major companies like Google and Facebook, admitted that smartphones are equipped with software that collects voice data. This data is used to send targeted ads based on user conversations, which can sometimes feel eerie.
Cox Media Group, a major player in the TV and radio industry, revealed that its Active Listening technology uses AI to monitor and analyze discussions. The software collects real-time voice data, combining it with behavioral data to target consumers at key moments, especially when they are considering purchases. The report states that this software gathers data from over 470 sources.
The revelation has sparked a strong response. Meta announced a thorough review of the firm’s practices to ensure no data was collected without consent, while Amazon denied any involvement with the marketing firm. This raises concerns about privacy, urging users to carefully read settings before agreeing to them.

Bluetooth 6.0 Released With Improved Accuracy, Security, and Power Efficiency
Bluetooth 6.0, the first major update to the wireless standard in eight years, was launched by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) earlier this week. The new version brings a range of features, including enhanced measurement accuracy between devices, improved security for digital keys, and better power efficiency.
One of the key features is Bluetooth Channel Sounding, which allows for precise distance measurements between devices, improving the functionality of location-tracking services like Apple’s Find My and Google’s Find My Device networks. It also adds extra security for digital keys, ensuring they work only within a specified range.
Bluetooth 6.0 introduces features like Monitoring Advertisers, allowing devices to track when another Bluetooth device enters or exits its range, conserving energy by avoiding unnecessary scans. Additionally, the new Decision-based Advertising Filtering feature further optimizes power use by reducing the need to scan secondary channels.
For gamers and video callers, Bluetooth 6.0 offers lower latency through the Isochronous Adaptation Layer (ISOAL) Enhancement, ensuring smoother audio communication. However, it may take time for Bluetooth 6.0-enabled devices to hit the market, as both smartphones and accessories need to support the new standard to fully utilize its features.
University of Michigan Study Confirms Accuracy of Galaxy Watch Health Measurements
Last year, Samsung partnered with the University of Michigan’s Michigan Performance Research Laboratory (MiPR) to study and enhance the accuracy of health measurements provided by Galaxy Watches. Now, they have shared the results of their research, confirming the reliability of the devices across multiple key health metrics.
Now Samsung, in partnership with the University of Michigan’s Michigan Performance Research Laboratory (MiPR), has shared findings from a study that analyzed the accuracy of health metrics measured by Galaxy Watches. The study focused on heart rate, body fat percentage, sweat loss, and VO2 max, comparing the results with sport science reference devices.
The study revealed a high correlation between the Galaxy Watches and medical-grade equipment, highlighting their reliability for fitness and health monitoring. Here’s the breakdown of the findings:
- Heart Rate: The Galaxy Watches achieved a 90% correlation with electrocardiogram (ECG) equipment, even during running, where motion makes measurements more challenging.
- Body Fat Percentage: The watches showed a 95% correlation with the standard dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) diagnostic test.
- Sweat Loss: In tests ranging from 2.5km to 20km, the watches achieved a 95% correlation when measuring water loss during running.
- VO2 Max: The watches had an 82% correlation with clinical-grade equipment for measuring oxygen absorption during exercise.
Kenneth Kozloff, co-director of HPSSC, praised the partnership with Samsung, stating, “We are excited to continue our collaboration to ensure that wearable technology innovations are accessible and accurate across all segments of the population.”
Windows 11 Surpasses Windows 10 in Popularity Among PC Gamers
Microsoft’s latest operating system, Windows 11, has overtaken Windows 10 in popularity among Steam users, marking a significant milestone since its October 2021 release. According to Steam’s August hardware survey, Windows 11 usage climbed to 49%, up from 46% in July, while Windows 10 usage dropped to 47%. This shift comes as Microsoft plans to end support for Windows 10 in October 2025.
The usage rates for macOS and Linux on Steam have remained largely unchanged during this period.
Beyond gaming, Windows 11 has also gained traction globally, with its web usage growing from 23% in July 2023 to nearly 32% in August 2024, according to StatCounter. However, the OS has seen a slower adoption rate compared to Windows 10, partly due to stricter hardware requirements such as the need for a TPM security chip and newer CPUs. Despite being a free upgrade for Windows 10 users, many were unable to switch due to these limitations, affecting the overall pace of adoption.

India Becomes Second-Largest Market for 5G Smartphones, Surpassing the US
India has surpassed the US to become the world’s second-largest market for 5G smartphones, according to a report by Counterpoint Research. China remains the largest market, holding a 32% share of the global 5G smartphone sector, while India now commands a 13% share. The US has dropped to third place with a 10% market share.
Prachir Singh, a senior analyst at Counterpoint Research, credited India’s growth to strong sales from brands like Samsung, Vivo, and Xiaomi in the budget segment. Singh noted that 5G handset shipments have been steadily rising, particularly in emerging markets, where affordable 5G devices have driven growth.
Globally, Apple leads in 5G smartphone shipments with a 25% share, thanks to the iPhone 14 and 15 series. Samsung follows with a 21% share, driven by its Galaxy A and S24 series. Both brands have five models each in the top 10 5G devices for the first half of 2024.
In India, Xiaomi and Vivo experienced significant growth, with Xiaomi achieving a triple-digit growth rate. Tarun Pathak, research director at Counterpoint Research, reported that 5G smartphones contributed to over 54% of the overall handset market in H1 2024, and he expects this trend to continue as more affordable 5G devices are introduced and network coverage expands.
Google Expands AI Integration with Gmail Q&A and Google Meet’s AI Note-Taking Features
Google continues to enhance its services with AI-driven capabilities, introducing two new features powered by its Gemini AI assistant for Gmail and Google Meet users.
First, the Gmail Q&A feature allows Android users to interact with Gemini directly within the Gmail app, acting as a personal assistant to read and summarize emails. Subscribers to Gemini services can use the assistant to search for specific email details, display unread messages, or sort texts from particular senders like “How much did the company spend on the last marketing event?” or “Catch me up on the emails about quarterly planning,”.
This AI integration represents a strategic shift by Google from traditional search to AI-powered interactions, encouraging users to utilize AI for summarizing information. A dedicated Gemini button now appears next to the search bar in Gmail.
While currently limited to emails, future updates will extend Gemini’s capabilities to Google Drive files. The feature is gradually rolling out to Google Workspace users, including those with Gemini Business, Enterprise, and Education subscriptions, as well as Google One AI Premium subscribers.
In addition, Google Meet is also receiving a significant AI upgrade with the introduction of the ‘Take notes for me’ feature, allowing users to get AI-generated notes after meetings. Officially announced on August 27, this feature is rolling out in phases and will be available to Workspace users with Gemini Enterprise, Education Premium, or the AI Meetings & Messaging add-ons.
Powered by Gemini, this tool transcribes and summarizes key discussion points from meetings. Once enabled, the AI creates a document in the meeting organizer’s Drive and attaches it to the Calendar event for easy access by all participants. Users also have the option to enable full transcription or record the meeting, offering additional flexibility.
With these AI advancements, Google is positioning Gemini as a central assistant across its Workspace ecosystem, enhancing both Gmail and Meet with AI-powered automation.
Gemini Live May Be Coming to Android Auto as Default Virtual Assistant
Google is pushing its AI Gemini into every one of its services. In another report by Android Authority, Google’s Gemini Live, an AI-driven voice assistant currently available to paid Gemini Advanced subscribers, may soon be integrated into Android Auto. This feature, launched last month, enables two-way voice communication with AI. According to Android Authority, recent findings in Android Auto version 12.8.143544 hint at the inclusion of Gemini Live.
The report identified code strings in the app referencing a feature codenamed “kitt,” which may be a nod to the AI car from the 1980s TV show Knight Rider. One of the strings read “ic_assistant_kitt_live_icon,” suggesting that Gemini Live could soon be integrated into Android Auto, offering hands-free voice control for drivers.
Additional internal menu references to “GeminiLiveAssistantAction” were also discovered, further supporting the possibility of this feature’s future integration. However, Google has not yet confirmed its release, and the feature remains unofficial until an announcement is made.
Currently, Gemini Live is available only to Gemini Advanced subscribers through the Google One AI Premium plan, which costs Rs. 1,950 per month after a free trial.
Instagram Introduces Public Comments on Stories with New Temporary Interaction Feature
Instagram is adding the ability for users to leave public comments on Instagram Stories, marking a shift from the previous method of replying via private messages. Now, anyone who can view a user’s Stories can also see the comments, making story interactions more public.
The commenting feature is more limited for private accounts, allowing only people the user follows back to comment. For public accounts, only those followed by the poster can leave comments. As with Stories themselves, these comments will disappear after 24 hours, though users can preserve them by saving the story as a highlight. Users also have the option to turn comments on or off for any Story.
This update is part of Instagram’s ongoing efforts to enhance engagement in features like Stories and Reels, which are increasingly seen as key interaction areas for users.
Earlier this summer, Instagram introduced temporary “Notes” on grid posts and Reels, which expire after three days and offer customizable visibility options. The platform also revealed that likes on posts will now appear as floating hearts, similar to those on disappearing Notes, enhancing visibility of user engagement.
