Apple’s 2026 iPhones to Feature 2nm A20 Chip
Apple’s 2026 iPhone lineup will reportedly use TSMC’s next-generation 2-nanometer process and introduce a new packaging method, according to a reputable source. The A20 chip in the iPhone 18 models will switch from InFo (Integrated Fan-Out) packaging to WMCM (Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module) packaging, enhancing the integration of multiple components like CPUs, GPUs, and DRAM. The iPhones will also see an upgrade to 12GB of RAM, marking a significant increase from the current 8GB in iPhone 16 models.
While only the iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to feature the 2nm chips due to cost concerns, all models in the series might benefit from the 12GB RAM standard. TSMC plans to start producing 2nm chips in late 2025, with Apple anticipated to be its first major customer. The leaker, “Phone Chip Expert,” who has a reliable track record of Apple predictions, also revealed that Apple will be using the A20 chip for the iPhone 18, marking a significant leap in chip performance and efficiency.
Samsung’s New AI Features Aim to Revolutionize Smartphone Experience
Samsung is significantly investing in new AI technologies to give its smartphones an edge over competitors. In addition to the AI-powered features introduced earlier this year, the company is reportedly working on a groundbreaking experience that could allow users to control their smartphones without ever needing to interact with the Settings menu. According to ET News, Samsung is developing AI that can predict user needs in advance by improving key “touch points” like the keyboard and camera, adjusting settings automatically based on usage patterns.
Currently, Samsung’s Bixby allows users to change settings through voice commands, but this new AI solution could take automation to the next level, providing a seamless experience without manual input. While this could revolutionize how smartphones are used, concerns arise about the potential downsides if the feature is released prematurely, given the current trend of companies rushing unfinished AI products to market.
YouTube Introduces New Features for Transparency and Enhanced User Experience
YouTube is rolling out a series of updates aimed at improving transparency and enhancing the platform’s usability. A major new feature is the introduction of Content Credentials powered by the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA). This new system will label videos with a “Captured with a Camera” tag, signifying that creators have used tools supporting C2PA standards, ensuring the authenticity of their content. This label will appear in the video description, offering viewers confidence that the audio and visuals have not been altered. To qualify for this label, creators must use C2PA-compatible tools (version 2.1 or higher), and any major edits breaking the chain of provenance will disqualify the video from receiving the label.
In addition, YouTube is introducing over two dozen new features to improve the user experience across its web, mobile, and TV platforms. One notable feature is the sleep timer, which will allow users to stop video playback automatically—a feature that was previously exclusive to Premium users. Another improvement includes a resizable miniplayer, letting users move it around the screen while browsing. The YouTube app for smart TVs is also receiving a refreshed interface for a more cinematic experience, along with an updated video player for YouTube Shorts, which will now display comments and shopping content alongside vertical videos.
These updates come as part of YouTube’s broader efforts to combat misinformation and improve the platform’s functionality, with further features, such as the ability to vote on videos in playlists and AI-powered chatbot interactions, expected to roll out later this year.
Scientists Achieve First-Ever Two-Way Communication Between Lucid Dreamers
In a groundbreaking experiment, California-based startup REMspace successfully facilitated two-way communication between individuals during lucid dreaming. On September 24, two participants experienced lucid dreamers, were able to exchange a word while asleep, marking the first instance of communication between people through dreams.
The participants were monitored via specially designed apparatuses that tracked their brain waves and polysomnographic data in real-time. When the first participant entered a lucid dream, a server detected the brain wave patterns and transmitted a word, ‘Zhilak’, via earbuds. The participant heard the word in his dream and repeated it aloud, with his voice being captured by sensors. Eight minutes later, the second participant, also in a lucid dream state, received the same word through her earbuds and repeated it, confirming the successful communication.
This breakthrough could have significant implications for sleep research, mental health treatment, and skills training. Although the experiment has yet to be reviewed by other scientists, REMspace CEO Michael Raduga called it a historic milestone that opens new possibilities for communication within the dream world.
OpenAI Releases Early Version of ChatGPT App for Windows, Available to Paid Users
OpenAI has launched an early version of its ChatGPT app for Windows, currently available exclusively to paid subscribers. Users of ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, Team, and Edu plans can now test the app, which can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store.
Similar to the Mac version released in June, the Windows app provides users with a dedicated window to interact with the AI chatbot, allowing them to keep it open alongside other applications. A convenient Alt + Space keyboard shortcut grants quick access to the app.
The Windows app also includes the ability to upload files and images, and offers a preview of OpenAI’s o1 model, which enhances reasoning capabilities. However, some features, such as the advanced voice mode, are not yet available.
Notably, OpenAI has addressed a security issue identified in the Mac app that previously stored conversations in plain text. The data is now encrypted for local storage. While the Windows version is limited to paid users for now, OpenAI plans to make it available to all users later in 2024.
