Apple Officially Confirmed its September Event: What to Expect and What Not to Expect

Apple has officially confirmed its annual September event for Monday, September 9th, with the tagline “It’s Glowtime” and a glowing Apple logo, suggesting that Apple Intelligence will be a key highlight. This highly anticipated event, set to take place at Apple Park in Cupertino, is expected to showcase a range of new products and updates, including new phones, AirPods, and Apple Watches. So, what should we expect and what should we not from this event?

What to Expect

iPhone 16 Series
The iPhone 16 series will likely be the centerpiece of the event, as Apple’s September events traditionally spotlight the latest iPhone models. This year, four models are expected: the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The standard iPhone 16 is rumored to feature a customizable Action Button, inherited from last year’s iPhone 15 and 15 Pro Max, along with new actions for every iPhone model.

The Pro models are anticipated to include a 48MP ultra-wide camera and a 5x telephoto lens, with the iPhone 16 Pro sporting a 6.3-inch display and the Pro Max featuring a 6.9-inch screen. Enhanced camera capabilities, such as improved lens coatings and a stacked sensor design for better performance, are also expected. Overall, minor changes are anticipated rather than any groundbreaking upgrades, with a mix of a new chipset and new color options.

Apple Watch Series 10 and Ultra 3
Alongside the new phones, the Apple Watch Series 10 is expected to debut with a larger display available in two sizes (1.89 inches and 2.04 inches) and a thinner design. Rumors also suggest a new magnetic mechanism for bands and potential updates to health features, including blood pressure monitoring and sleep apnea detection. Additionally, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 may be introduced with more color options and a new chip, though significant design changes are not expected.

AirPods 4
The fourth-generation AirPods are anticipated to launch with an updated design, new colors, and a switch to USB-C charging. There may be two non-Pro models: one without Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and basic features, and another with ANC. The mid-range AirPods 4 are expected to feature wireless charging in their case, along with a smarter and more comfortable design.

Apple Intelligence
The main highlight of the event is expected to be Apple Intelligence, as suggested by the “Glowtime” tagline and logo. This new suite of AI-powered features, introduced at WWDC 2024, will likely be demonstrated on the new iPhones and other compatible devices. Features may include an enhanced Siri, text summarization, writing assistance, and generative image creation. Although there may be delays in its rollout, a release date for Apple Intelligence could be announced.

Software Updates
In addition to Apple Intelligence, there will be several free upgrades coming to all devices compatible with iOS 18 (those with an A12 Bionic chipset or newer). Significant upgrades are expected for core iPhone apps, including Messages, Mail, Photos, Maps, and Wallet, all of which will be updated to iOS 18. Additionally, the event is expected to showcase new versions of watchOS 11, macOS Sequoia, and tvOS 18.

What Not to Expect

iPhone Air
The rumored iPhone Air, a slimmer version of the iPhone, is not expected at this event but may be introduced in next year’s iPhone launch. Apple is rumored to discontinue its iPhone Plus model next year, as these models only account for 5 to 10% of iPhone shipments. The iPhone 17 Slim is expected to feature a 6.6-inch screen with a 1260×2740 resolution and an A19 chip. Its Dynamic Island area will be similar to that of current iPhones, and its metal frame will use a titanium alloy with a lower percentage of titanium compared to the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

New iPads
New iPads are unlikely to be announced, as Apple recently launched new models earlier this year, including the iPad Air 6 and iPad Pro (2024). However, a new iPad Mini may appear at the event, as current iPad Mini stock is running low, which could indicate a new model is on the way. On the other hand, Apple has been known to quietly announce new iPads via press releases.

New MacBooks
New M4-equipped MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac models are expected to be released later, possibly in October, rather than at this event. Mark Gurman previously mentioned that new MacBooks are set for release later this year in October, aligning with recent MacBook releases in 2023.

The event will begin at 10 AM PT (10:30 PM IST) on September 9th and will be livestreamed on Apple’s website, via the Apple TV app, and on YouTube.

Realme Unveils World’s Fastest 320W SuperSonic Charge Technology fill the battery in under 5 mins

Realme has set a new benchmark in smartphone charging technology this month with the introduction of its 320W SuperSonic Charge. This new technology can fully charge a smartphone with a 4,420mAh battery in just four minutes and 30 seconds, making it the world’s fastest smartphone charging technology to date.

The remarkable speed of the 320W SuperSonic Charge is achieved through two key innovations. First, Realme has upgraded its existing 240W charger to a 320W output without increasing its size. Dubbed the “Pocket Cannon,” this upgraded charger features two USB-C ports that deliver 150W to Realme’s smartphones and 65W to compatible devices like laptops. The second innovation is a new 4,420mAh battery with four individual cells, allowing all cells to charge simultaneously for faster charging times. This design contrasts with the single-cell batteries typically used in Apple and Samsung smartphones, which offer more capacity but charge more slowly.

Realme’s 320W charging technology slightly outpaces Redmi’s 300W charging tech, which charges a 4,000mAh battery in four minutes and 55 seconds. In comparison, Realme’s tech charges a larger 4,420mAh battery in under five minutes. However, like Redmi’s 300W technology, Realme’s 320W SuperSonic Charge has not yet been incorporated into any commercially available smartphones, and no specific devices have been announced to feature this new charging capability.

Realme did not specify which smartphone was used to demonstrate this charging technology, nor did it confirm which future devices will feature this fast-charging technology and these batteries.

OpenAI Rolls Out Advanced Voice Mode for ChatGPT Plus, Raises Concerns About Human-AI Emotional Attachments

OpenAI, backed by Microsoft and led by Sam Altman, has started rolling out its advanced voice mode for ChatGPT Plus users this month, a feature first announced in May but delayed from its planned launch in late June to July. The new voice mode offers real-time, emotionally responsive interactions using four preset voices—Juniper, Breeze, Cove, and Ember—developed in collaboration with paid voice actors. Initially available to a small group of users, the feature is expected to roll out to all users by fall.

Open AI ChatGPt

The advanced voice mode enables more natural interactions with ChatGPT, including real-time responses, emotional engagement, pronunciation corrections, storytelling, and even singing in various styles. Although there are some technical limitations, such as an inability to handle complex audio layering, early user feedback has been positive. OpenAI has implemented safeguards to block outputs that deviate from the preset voices and to prevent the chatbot from impersonating people. The voice capabilities have been rigorously tested by over 100 external testers across 45 languages to ensure robust protection against inappropriate content.

Despite the positive reception, later OpenAI has raised concerns about the potential impact of the voice mode on human-AI relationships. In its System Card for GPT-4, OpenAI highlighted the risk of users forming emotional attachments to the AI, which could affect human-to-human interactions and social norms. Early testing showed instances where users developed emotional bonds with the AI, which could potentially impact real-world relationships. OpenAI acknowledges this issue and plans to monitor it closely, as there is currently no solution to address these concerns.

Ai emotionally attached to humans

The advanced voice mode is part of the ChatGPT Plus subscription plan, costing $20 per month, and includes priority access to new features, faster response times, and availability during high demand. Future updates are expected to add video and screen-sharing capabilities, further enhancing user interaction with ChatGPT.

Samsung Galaxy S24 FE: Leaks, Listings, and Rumors Point to Imminent Launch

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE has been at the center of numerous leaks and unofficial confirmations this month, pointing to an imminent launch. A support page for the Galaxy S24 FE, identified by the model number SM-S721B, was spotted on Samsung’s French website. This listing, discovered by SamMobile, serves as an unofficial confirmation of the device’s existence, indicating that its release is on the horizon.

The Galaxy S24 FE recently appeared on Geekbench, further solidifying its upcoming launch. The listing revealed that the device would be powered by the Exynos 2400 chipset, a slightly underclocked version named the Exynos 2400e, which includes a main Cortex-X4 core running at 3.11 GHz, compared to the usual 3.2 GHz. This configuration is expected to provide a solid performance while managing power efficiency effectively.

The Galaxy S24 FE is anticipated to feature a 6.7-inch FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display, capable of reaching a peak brightness of 1,900 nits, and protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+. The camera system is expected to include a versatile triple rear setup with a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and an 8MP 3x telephoto lens, along with a 10MP front camera for selfies. Additionally, the phone is rumored to pack a 4,565 mAh battery, ensuring a full day of use.

Design-wise, the Galaxy S24 FE is set to offer a more refined aesthetic with thinner bezels, a larger screen, and a slimmer profile compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S23 FE. Leaks also suggest that the phone will come in four colors: Gray, Light Blue, Light Green, and Yellow, catering to a wide range of style preferences.

The combination of these features suggests that the Galaxy S24 FE will offer a high-end experience at a more accessible price point, making it a strong competitor in the mid-range smartphone market.

Black Myth: Wukong Breaks Sales Records and Propels Steam to Historic User Milestone

Black Myth: Wukong, the first AAA game developed by a Chinese studio, has not only made a significant impact on the global gaming market by selling 10 million copies in its first week but has also helped set a new record for Steam’s concurrent users. Hangzhou-based Game Science, the developer of Black Myth: Wukong, announced the sales milestone on August 23. Released on August 20 across Steam, PlayStation, and Tencent’s WeGame, the game sold 4.5 million copies within the first 24 hours, surpassing initial sales of other major titles such as Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077.

Black Myth: Wukong‘s success has made it one of the fastest-selling games in history, with a sales pace that outstrips many other popular titles. For instance, Hogwarts Legacy sold 15 million copies in three months, while Elden Ring reached 13 million and Cyberpunk 2077 13.7 million in their first month. The rapid rise of Black Myth: Wukong reflects its immense popularity among gamers worldwide, particularly in China. The game’s development took over seven years, with a production cost of around 50 million yuan (approximately Rs 58 crore). Inspired by Chinese mythology, the game is based on the classic tale “Journey to the West,” featuring the Monkey King, Sun Wukong, as the protagonist.

The game’s launch has also coincided with a new record for Steam, which surpassed 37 million concurrent users for the first time in its history on August 25. This new record marks a sharp increase in concurrent users since the beginning of 2024, when the platform hit a peak of nearly 33.7 million. The surge in user numbers is largely attributed to the popularity of Black Myth: Wukong, which quickly became the second-most played game on Steam of all time with a peak concurrent player count of over 2.4 million.

The strong debut of Black Myth: Wukong not only underscores the growing importance of China to the global gaming industry but also suggests that Steam’s concurrent user record could continue to climb. As new Chinese games emerge, it is possible that Steam could reach 40 million concurrent users by the end of 2024.

Google Unveils Bioacoustic AI Model “HeAR” for Early Disease Detection

Google has launched a new bioacoustic foundation model called “HeAR” (Health Acoustic Representations) aimed at using generative AI for healthcare purposes. HeAR is designed to help researchers develop AI models capable of detecting early signs of diseases by listening to human sounds, such as coughs. The model has been trained on 300 million audio samples, including 100 million cough sounds, allowing it to identify patterns in health-related audio data. Google claims that HeAR outperforms other models across various tasks while requiring less training data.

One of the notable features of HeAR is its ability to run on mobile devices, making health screenings more accessible and cost-effective, especially in remote areas. This technology eliminates the need for expensive diagnostic equipment like X-ray machines, relying instead on a device’s microphone for health assessments.

Google has also partnered with Salcit Technologies, an India-based respiratory healthcare company, to enhance its bioacoustic AI model, Swaasa. Salcit will use HeAR to improve Swaasa’s ability to detect tuberculosis early by analyzing cough sounds. This collaboration aims to advance the use of AI in healthcare, particularly in early disease detection and monitoring.
